Dr. Martin Schwegmann, born 1975, is a Berlin based architect and urban researcher working at the intersection of urbanism, critical space production and urban politics. Since April 2017 he is studio commissioner for Berlin. Before he has run „Actors of Urban Change“, a program of the Robert Bosch Stiftung in cooperation with MitOst e.V. in Berlin. He is cofounder and member of the Urban Research Group for Urban Commons at the Georg Simmel Center of HU Berlin. The educated carpenter worked as a planner for more 10 years. He did several interventions critically focusing on public space.
In order to create inclusive and cooperative cities, we need to reinvent functioning, community based urban spaces and interfaces that allow the urban user to become an active part of the city beyond mere consumerism.
